Microsoft posted revenue of $81.3 billion for the previous quarter, up 17 percent from a year earlier, but its shares fell amid investor concerns over an expansion in cloud investment.

Against that backdrop, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella (사티아 나델라) stressed to investors that usage of the company’s AI assistant, Copilot, is increasing.

TechCrunch reported on Thursday that Microsoft’s capital spending totalled $88.2 billion in the last fiscal year and has reached $72.4 billion so far this year. Investors judged that growth in Azure cloud and Microsoft 365 fell short of expectations. UBS analyst Karl Keirstead said, "Both core businesses underperformed on growth."

Nadella, by contrast, stressed that daily users of Microsoft’s consumer Copilot AI have tripled.

GitHub Copilot, an AI coding tool, reached 20 million users including free users, and Microsoft 365 Copilot has secured 15 million paying customers, it said.

Nadella said, "Demand for AI services is exceeding data centre supply, and all equipment is running at full capacity."
