Some observers say Netflix could strengthen its position in the TV market if it completes its acquisition of Warner Bros.

The Verge reported on Jan. 29 that Netflix has asked TV manufacturers to include a dedicated button on remote controls and place the Netflix app first on home screens.

Netflix has not disclosed contract terms with TV makers, but some industry officials say Netflix makes stronger demands than other streaming services.

If manufacturers do not accept those conditions, they cannot install the Netflix app, which could hurt TV sales. In the United States, Netflix accounts for 19 percent of streaming traffic and is the second most popular app after YouTube.

If it acquires Warner Bros, Netflix is likely to apply similar requirements to HBO Max, The Verge reported.

Regulators are a variable. Competition authorities in Britain and the European Union are reviewing the acquisition, and TV makers fear Netflix will make stronger demands, The Verge reported.

Netflix could require TV makers to add an HBO Max button. If regulators raise concerns about Netflix's demands, TV makers may gain more negotiating power, The Verge reported.
