Spotify is expanding its social features by introducing a group chat function after rolling out messaging in August last year, TechCrunch reported on Jan. 29.
With the update, users can share podcasts, playlists and audiobooks with up to 10 people. Group chat is available only among users who previously shared content. Users can also chat with people they made a collaborative playlist with or used the Jam or Blend functions with.
This appears to be part of Spotify's strategy to develop its streaming platform from a simple music service into a community-based social network.
Earlier, Spotify introduced social elements including podcast comments, friend following and sharing listening history.
