KakaoGames on Jan. 29 unveiled the development direction for the combat system in its new game Chrono Odyssey.
The details were introduced through a fourth developer note on the official Steam page. KakaoGames focused on raising overall completeness, including combat controls and presentation, based on feedback from a global closed test last year.
The biggest change is an advanced character control framework. It moved away from the previous approach that restricted movement depending on the camera perspective. Characters can now be controlled freely regardless of camera direction. A dedicated quick left-right movement action was also added, improving responsiveness. Attack hit detection now triggers based on the direction the character is facing, not the camera, making it more intuitive.
It also introduced systems to heighten combat tension. Visual reactions on impact were strengthened to increase immersion. The defense system added a "guard crush" element. If an attack lands while defending, a separate resource is consumed, and defense collapses once it reaches a certain level. In particular, defense is less effective against side or rear attacks, making positioning more important.
The consumables system was rebuilt with a focus on convenience. Health recovery was changed to a rechargeable system rather than consuming items. It recharges automatically even after death, so the flow of play is not interrupted. Food items were classified for long-duration buffs, and special potions that deliver powerful instant effects were newly added.
It also strengthened convenience features, including clearly 표시ing the range and end point during 1-on-1 duels between users and visualising the trajectory of thrown weapons.
The Chrono Odyssey development team said, "This upgrade is part of a process to clearly convey the action and strategic fun the game pursues." It added, "Based on user feedback, we will continue to upgrade the play experience."
