Samsung Electronics has scheduled terrestrial news channels on its video platform (FAST). Samsung Electronics said on Jan. 29 it has newly scheduled “KBS News 24” and “SBS No.1 News Live” on Samsung TV Plus. FAST is an ad-supported free streaming service. Samsung TV Plus is available on Samsung TVs and mobile devices without separate sign-up or subscription.
“KBS News 24” is built around major news programmes including KBS News 9, KBS News 12 and KBS News Plaza. “SBS No.1 News Live” is made up of flagship news programmes including SBS 8 News, SBS 10 News, SBS 12 News, SBS Onews, Nightline and Morning Wide.
Both channels provide 24-hour live news. When live broadcasts are not available, they schedule replays of key news programmes aired within the past 24 hours and the latest news clips.
Samsung TV Plus has expanded its existing FAST service, which had focused on entertainment and drama, into public news content. In addition to terrestrial news channels, it also operates news and economy-focused channels including JTBC News, MBN News, YTN, Maeil Business TV, Yonhap News TV and Korea Economic TV.
Samsung TV Plus is available in 30 countries worldwide. It has reached 100,000,000 monthly active users. It provides about 4,300 channels and about 66,000 VOD titles for free. It can be watched without a separate set-top box.
“Samsung TV Plus, the largest FAST platform in the country, will continue to provide diverse content in the FAST market and strengthen its differentiated competitiveness through this scheduling of terrestrial news channels,” said Choi Jun-heon (최준헌), head of the TV Plus Group at Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business.
