Toss, operated by Viva Republica, said on Jan. 29 that cumulative subscribers to its facial-recognition payment service FacePay have surpassed 2 million.
The milestone came about 5 months after its formal launch in September last year. It also came 2.5 months after the subscriber count topped 1 million. Toss said recent growth has accelerated compared with the 600,000 users who joined in the same period immediately after the formal launch. It said more than 13,000 people sign up on average each day, with 1 new subscriber about every 7 seconds.
FacePay is quickly becoming an everyday payment method beyond a new technology. Monthly active users in December 2025 rose more than 180 percent from the previous month.
Its user base is also forming quickly. The most active FacePay customer made an average of 8.08 payments a day based on actual payment days, and has made more than 300 payments in total so far, Toss said.
A Toss official said, "Surpassing 2 million subscribers and the steep rise in MAU mean that FacePay has gone beyond a new technology and has become a payment habit." The official added, "We will continue to advance the user experience across the entire payment process, as well as expand where it can be used."
