SK Hynix will cancel treasury shares worth 12.24 trillion won. The move is a shareholder return measure after it posted record results as last year’s operating profit surged 101 percent from a year earlier to top 47 trillion won.
A filing on the Financial Supervisory Service’s DART system on Jan. 28 showed SK Hynix held a board meeting and resolved to cancel 15.3 million previously acquired common treasury shares on Feb. 9. The cancellation amount is valued at 12.24 trillion won based on the previous day’s closing price of 800,000 won, equivalent to about 2.1 percent of the total shares outstanding of 728,002,365.
Once the cancellation is completed, the total shares outstanding will fall to 712,702,365. The reduction in share count will raise earnings per share and per-share value for existing shareholders. SK Hynix said the decision was a strategic choice to maximise shareholder value using distributable profit as the funding source without reducing capital.
The decision follows last year’s results. A separate filing on changes of 30 percent or more in revenue or profit structure showed SK Hynix’s 2025 consolidated revenue rose 46.8 percent from a year earlier to 97.15 trillion won from 66.19 trillion won. Operating profit jumped 101.2 percent to 47.21 trillion won from 23.47 trillion won.
Net profit came to 42.95 trillion won, up 116.9 percent from 19.80 trillion won a year earlier. The company cited higher revenue and profit due to strong memory demand as the reason for the strong results. Total assets rose 47 percent to 176.11 trillion won from 119.86 trillion won, and total equity increased 63 percent to 120.67 trillion won.
SK Hynix is also reviewing additional measures to boost corporate value, including a U.S. stock market listing. In a response to an inquiry disclosure on the same day, it said it is continuously reviewing various measures to enhance corporate value, including a U.S. listing, but nothing has been decided so far. It added it will re-disclose when specific details are decided or within 6 months. SK Hynix is set to announce its confirmed results on Jan. 29.
