LG Electronics has opened a year-round accommodation facility using its modular home, LG Smart Cottage. LG Electronics said on Jan. 28 it recently opened the multipurpose cultural space Juksanmorak in Juksan-myeon, Gimje, North Jeolla Province, with the local youth entrepreneurs' group Ohu Cooperative.
It is an example of Smart Cottage being operated as a permanent accommodation facility rather than a pop-up showroom. Visitors can stay in Smart Cottage and take tours linked to local commercial districts.
The company aims to expand the Smart Cottage experience to more customers in line with growth in the domestic modular construction market, estimated to reach 440 billion won in 2030. It aims to attract interest from B2B operators planning fine-stay, camping and glamping projects. Fine-stay refers to premium lodging in a standalone building with strong interior design and landscaping.
Juksanmorak has 2 single-storey Mono units and 2 duplex Duo units. Mono has a living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom on a single floor. Duo has living spaces such as a living room, kitchen and bathroom on the first floor and a bedroom on the second floor. Both models are equipped with LG Electronics AI home appliances including a refrigerator, built-in induction cooktop, light-wave oven, dishwasher, WashTower and StanbyME.
The company stressed that Smart Cottage is suited to B2B customers seeking rapid commercialisation because modular homes have short construction periods. Users can manage the building conveniently by controlling appliances, IoT devices and air-conditioning equipment through the ThinQ app. High energy efficiency can also reduce maintenance costs. Mono Plus 26 installed at Juksanmorak achieved an energy self-sufficiency rate of more than 120 percent. The model was the first prefabricated building in South Korea to receive the top grade, ZEB Plus, in the Korea Energy Agency's zero-energy building certification.
Cho Yeon-woo (조연우), head of LG Electronics Smart Cottage Company, said, "LG Smart Cottage will be a good option not only for customers who want a modular home where they can rest comfortably like at home, but also for B2B operators preparing leisure and tourism businesses."
