In December, the combined number of payments on major delivery platforms exceeded the peak recorded during the COVID-19 period.
App and payment data analysis firm Wiseapp Retail said on Tuesday that the combined number of payments on Baedal Minjok, Coupang Eats, Yogiyo and Ttaenggyeoyo totaled 127 million in December.
That is above the COVID-19 period from 2020 to 2022, when the highest number of payments was 111 million amid a spread of contactless consumption.
By payer residence, Baedal Minjok, Coupang Eats and Yogiyo had the highest share of payers in Gyeonggi, while Ttaenggyeoyo had the highest share in Busan.
Coupang Eats, in particular, had 57.9 percent of payers in Seoul and Gyeonggi, accounting for a majority.
The survey was a sample of credit and debit card payment amounts and did not include payments made by bank transfer, cash or gift certificates.
