SK Telecom said on Tuesday it has built an 'ESG Data Integration Platform' to strengthen the transparency and reliability of ESG data.

SKT said the platform gives it a reporting system that aligns with global ESG disclosure standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). It also provides a management system that can respond proactively to the domestic mandatory ESG disclosures under the Korea Sustainability Standards Board (KSSB).

SKT's ESG Data Integration Platform can manage about 280 data points related to environment, society and governance, including greenhouse gas emissions, supply-chain information and the status of ethical management. Linked to internal systems, it automatically collects about 50 percent of ESG-related data to improve efficiency.

Based on SKT's AI technologies such as an AI chatbot, it responds in real time to inquiries about ESG indicators and helps use data in a more structured way. Through a dashboard, it visualises a range of indicators for easier viewing, allowing users to check various ESG-related management information at a glance.

SKT said it upgraded management functions so it can manage and forecast the status of its Net Zero push, including the Net Zero roadmap, implementation results, reduction costs and annual targets.

SKT said it plans to use the ESG data integration platform to manage ESG-related data from subsidiaries such as SK Broadband and SK Telink in an integrated way. Based on this, it plans to disclose sustainability reports and climate information disclosure reports more transparently and accurately.

Um Jong-hwan (엄종환), head of SKT's ESG Promotion Office, said, "In step with mandatory ESG disclosures, we proactively built an ESG data integration platform." He said, "We will further advance our ESG management system by improving data reliability and usability and responding quickly to the needs of various stakeholders."
