Samsung Electronics plans to launch a heat pump that provides heating, cooling and hot water in an integrated system. Samsung Electronics said on Tuesday it will launch its 2026 high-efficiency heat pump heating and cooling system, the new EHS All-in-One, in the European market. EHS is a solution that provides indoor heating and hot water for residential and commercial facilities. Based on heat pump technology, it can produce hot water using ambient air heat and electricity, making it more efficient than boilers that use fossil fuels and generating less carbon.

The new product uses a single outdoor unit to operate heating and cooling by using both water and air at the same time, while also providing hot water. It applies a waste-heat recycling function and uses R32 refrigerant with a global warming potential about 68 percent lower. The company also stressed that its SmartThings-based AI saving mode reduces energy use.

Conventional heat pumps perform only one function, either heating or cooling. Heat pumps that provide heating also require a separate air conditioner for cooling. To address this, Samsung Electronics said the new product provides air heating and cooling, underfloor heating and cooling, and domestic hot water with a single outdoor unit. By using air and water simultaneously, it can run air heating and cooling and underfloor heating and cooling at the same time.

In winter, it quickly raises indoor temperatures with air heating while also warming floors with hot water. In spring and autumn, when day-to-night temperature swings are large, it keeps the living room cool with air cooling and runs underfloor heating in bedrooms using hot water. It applies a heat recovery function that reuses waste heat generated during summer cooling. Using this function can boost the energy efficiency used for heating water by up to more than 2 times, it said.

The company also reduced the size. It enlarged the propeller fan used in the outdoor unit and applied a high-capacity motor, cutting the number of fans from 2 to 1. This achieved a compact design with a height of 850 mm, about 40 percent lower than before. The new product is designed to supply heating hot water up to 65 degrees Celsius even in sub-zero weather and to enable heating even in severe cold of minus 25 degrees Celsius.

The new product can cut energy use by up to 17 percent with its AI saving mode. It also connects with Samsung Electronics' residential EHS indoor units, including the Climate Hub and Hydro Unit. A 7-inch screen built into the indoor unit allows users to monitor and control the status of heating and cooling devices throughout the home, and check indoor temperature and hot water supply status. Samsung Electronics plans to launch EHS products in the South Korean market within this year.

Lim Seong-taek (임성택), vice president of Samsung Electronics' DA Division Air Solution Business Team, said, "We plan to actively target the European market with a Europe-tailored EHS All-in-One product that enhances energy efficiency as well as installation and usability convenience." He added, "Going forward, in line with policies to accelerate heat pump adoption in the domestic market, we will introduce innovative HVAC solutions to the domestic market as well and strengthen leadership in the global HVAC market."
