K Bank said on Jan. 27 that its ATM usage rose sixfold in about a year after it increased the number of cash machines it operates in 2024 to 45 locations from 5. K Bank is the only internet bank that runs its own ATMs.

K Bank customers can use all services, including deposits, withdrawals and transfers, up to 30 times a month without fees at ATMs nationwide. At its own branded ATMs, customers can use the services for free without limits on the number of transactions.

K Bank expanded its ATMs from 5 major subway stations in Seoul to 45 locations starting in November 2024.

After the expansion, usage of the 45 subway-station ATMs rose about sixfold in about a year. As of the end of 2025, the average monthly number of transactions per station grew to about 300.

In particular, the average monthly number of transactions at the 40 newly installed station ATMs was tallied at 260. That marked a sharp rise from K Bank usage via regular ATMs before the switch to K Bank ATMs, which stood at 10 transactions a month, and the effect of creating new demand was clearly confirmed.

The existing 5 station ATMs also continued to grow over the same period, with the average monthly number of transactions rising about 60 percent to 620 from 400.

These results are analysed as the strategy having worked, expanding ATMs mainly at subway stations with high foot traffic and renewing the design and functions to reflect younger customers' sensibilities.

Actual usage was also prominent mainly in areas with high foot traffic and a high share of users in their 20s and 30s. As of the end of last year, Sillim Station recorded the most transactions at 1,139 a month. Seolleung Station (708) and Seoul National University Station (619) followed. Seoul National University Station showed strong demand, with transactions rising quickly after installation even though the area had no previous history of operating an ATM.

A K Bank official said, "After expanding ATMs, customer usage rose noticeably, proving the results of our strategy to expand offline touchpoints." The official added, "We plan to continue strengthening ATM service quality and accessibility by closely analysing customer usage patterns and demand."
