Gwangju Bank said on Monday it held a meeting of its executive nomination committee and recommended Executive Vice President Jeong Ilseon as the sole candidate for the bank's next chief executive.
Jeong joined Gwangju Bank in 1995. He was promoted to deputy executive vice president in 2023 and executive vice president in 2024. Within the bank, he is evaluated as having a strong understanding of overall operations as well as organisational management capabilities and leadership.
Incumbent CEO Ko Byung-il, who had been mentioned as a candidate for the next post, was reported to have expressed his intention to decline. Ko has already served one reappointment since taking office as CEO in January 2023.
Gwangju Bank will hold a board meeting and a shareholders meeting on Wednesday to finalise the next CEO.
