Korea Exchange said on Monday that its chair, Eun-bo Jung (정은보), has departed for the United States to attend the first 2026 board meeting of the World Federation of Exchanges and to hold a global roadshow in New York.

Jung will attend the first WFE board meeting in Washington on Monday local time. The meeting is expected to focus discussions on tokenisation, a move to T+1 settlement and building a 24-hour trading system, which have emerged as key issues in global capital markets.

Tokenisation refers to splitting the value and rights linked to existing assets such as stocks and issuing them as blockchain-based token securities.

Jung plans to discuss the role of exchanges and response directions on global issues with exchange CEOs from various countries and to share South Korea's experience in operating its capital market.

He will then travel to New York on Wednesday to host the "Korea Exchange Global Roadshow: KOSPI 5000 and Beyond".

The event, co-hosted with Goldman Sachs, is expected to draw about 20 major institutional investors including global asset managers and hedge funds.

The exchange plans to explain the government's and the exchange's policy efforts to revitalise South Korea's stock market and strengthen market trust, and to emphasise that the Korean market is breaking out of an undervaluation phase and rising to become a global leading market.

Jung said the KOSPI's first-ever intraday breach of the 5,000-point mark, reaching 5,019.54, was a signal that South Korea's capital market had entered in earnest a phase of being revalued by global investors.

He added that the exchange will continue efforts to spread a culture of enhancing shareholder value so that South Korea's stock market can establish itself as an attractive investment destination recognised with a "Korea premium".
