LG Uplus said on Jan. 25 it is checking required obligations as an AI developer and user in line with the AI Basic Act, which took effect on Jan. 22, and is activating a companywide management system.
The step is aimed at strengthening user protection and trust across AI services and establishing a stable compliance framework from the early stage of the law’s implementation.
LG Uplus checked transparency obligations required by the law for generative AI services subject to the AI Basic Act, including its integrated customer service and membership app U+one. The company made user protection a core principle and took steps so users can clearly recognize that the services are operated based on AI.
It reflected in terms of use that services subject to the AI Basic Act are provided based on AI, so advance notice is given. It met transparency obligations by clearly indicating that outputs are generated by AI. It also strengthened training activities so employees across the company can understand and comply with the relevant law.
LG Uplus also plans to systematically manage legal compliance across the entire process of AI service planning, development and operation by running an AI risk management system involving related departments such as the CTO, the information security center and the legal office.
Earlier, LG Uplus obtained the ISO/IEC 42001 certification, an international standard, in June last year, and was officially recognized for global-level ethics and reliability across AI technology development and service operations.
An LG Uplus official said, "With the AI Basic Act taking effect, it is a time when responsible use based on customer trust is required along with technological innovation." The official said, "We will focus on providing differentiated customer value and outstanding customer experience through AI, and continue challenges and leaps forward as a choice for future customers."
