[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Global AI scientist Yann LeCun (얀 르쿤) has left Meta and founded AMI Labs to develop next-generation AI systems. AMI aims to build "world models" and create intelligent systems that understand reality.
It recently unveiled its website and began its push in earnest, TechCrunch reported on Friday. AMI Labs began full-scale research as Alex Lebrun (알렉스 르브룬), co-founder of healthcare AI startup Nabla, joined as CEO.
AMI Labs plans to develop AI that interacts with real-world data beyond the limits of existing large language models. It plans to focus on areas where reliability and safety are important, including healthcare, industrial automation and robotics. LeCun said, "True intelligence begins in the world, not in language," and "AI must evolve beyond simple text generation toward understanding and adapting to reality."
AMI Labs plans to set up its headquarters in Paris and establish offices in New York, Montreal and Singapore. The French government also said it would spare no support to strengthen Paris' role as an AI hub.
