National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) and the Seodaemun District Urban Management Corporation on Jan. 23 signed a business agreement at the Seodaemun Cultural and Sports Center in Seoul on promoting the hologram industry and spreading the adoption of the technology.

The two sides agreed to work together to jointly plan and produce hologram content, operate hologram technology demonstrations and experience programs at Seodaemun Prison History Hall, and hold special events linked to major commemorative days such as Liberation Day and promote them to the public.

They plan to continue discussions on specific measures needed to promote the domestic stereoscopic video industry and expand the adoption and diffusion of the technology.

Lee Kyung-rok (이경록), a director at NIPA, said the Ministry of Science and ICT has in recent years worked to promote the stereoscopic video industry through research and development projects to develop core hologram technologies and demonstration projects for commercialisation. He said the agreement will be used to actively support efforts so the public can more easily experience stereoscopic video products and services and use them in everyday life.

Han Un-young (한운영), chairman of the Seodaemun District Urban Management Corporation, said the agreement with NIPA created an important opportunity for Seodaemun Prison History Hall, a symbol of South Korea's modern and contemporary history, to be transformed into a "living digital history space". He said the corporation will spare no support so that the site of the fierce independence movement can become a more vivid venue for history education for citizens by implementing lifelike images of independence activists through holograms.

NIPA is 추진 중이다, from 2024 through this year for three years, detailed projects to support production, demonstrations and strengthening the growth foundation to expand commercialisation by stereoscopic video companies through the Ministry of Science and ICT's "Hologram Technology Commercialisation Demonstration Support" project.
