[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Smart home security company Ring has launched a new tool, Ring Verify, that detects whether videos have been manipulated, Engadget reported on Thursday.
From December 2025, all videos recorded on Ring cameras will have a digital security seal applied, allowing users to verify whether footage is original.
Ring described the system as similar to a tamper-evident seal on a medicine bottle. Ring Verify detects changes such as adjusting brightness or trimming even a few seconds and marks the video as "unverifiable." Users can upload a video on a web page to check whether it was manipulated.
The feature also identifies fake Ring videos generated by AI. Ring Verify can only confirm whether a video has been manipulated and cannot determine specific edits or whether it was AI-generated, the company said.
