The KOSPI ended slightly lower after a cautious session a day ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve's interest rate decision.
On Dec. 10, the KOSPI closed down 8.55 points, or 0.21 percent, at 4,135.00 from the previous session.
The index opened up 15.50 points, or 0.37 percent, at 4,159.05 and rose as high as 4,172.64. It quickly gave up gains and swung around flat levels throughout the session.
The KOSDAQ index finished up 3.65 points, or 0.39 percent, at 935.00.
It opened up 1.02 points, or 0.11 percent, at 932.37, then slipped as low as 927.36, down 0.43 percent, before turning higher and posting a mild rise.
