South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT said on March 5 it published the "2025 Quantum Information Technology White Paper (Revised Edition)" with the National Information Society Agency (NIA) and the Future Quantum Convergence Forum.
The white paper was planned as baseline material to be used for policy-making and project planning by industry, academia and research institutions, based on the Quantum Technology Industry Act that took effect in November last year.
The revised edition has four main changes. It supplements the latest convergence technology trends such as QuantumAI and includes the status of hybrid technologies in quantum communications and quantum computing. It also expands supply-chain information on materials, parts and equipment from 453 to 530 items. It restructures 106 industrialisation models by linking them to the latest domestic and overseas corporate cases and increases the number of expert contributors to 104.
The revised edition also newly introduces an AI chatbot dedicated to the white paper. It provides tailored explanations when users ask for information on the website of the Quantum Industry Ecosystem Support Center.
The white paper will be distributed to 17 local governments and about 100 institutions, including major research institutes, universities and quantum-related companies.
Yoon Kyung-sook (윤경숙), director general for Basic and Fundamental Research Policy at the ministry, said, "This white paper will become a strategic asset for the Republic of Korea to leap into a quantum powerhouse."
