Toss Place, a subsidiary of Viva Republica (Toss) that supplies payment terminals and POS solutions, said on Jan. 23 it has introduced an AI automatic product registration feature for Toss POS.
The update was planned to shorten the initial product registration process, seen as one of the most cumbersome procedures when opening a new store or replacing POS devices.
Previously, when adopting a POS system, users had to manually enter menu names, prices and categories one by one or organise them in an Excel file. Detailed option menus such as “spicy” or “extra shot” also had to be set separately after basic product registration, typically taking 1 hour or more to complete.
The newly introduced AI automatic product registration feature applies advanced image recognition technology to address these inconveniences. When users take and upload photos of physical menus, AI analyses product names, prices and categories, as well as detailed option information, and automatically registers them in the POS system.
A strength is the wide range of targets it can recognise. It accurately recognises not only printed menus but also handwritten notes at stores preparing to open and photos of screens from other companies’ POS devices previously in use. Even when multiple images are uploaded, AI analyses them and organises them into a single product list.
To use the feature, users tap “add products at once” on the main screen of the Toss POS app, select AI automatic registration and upload prepared photos. After the AI displays its analysis results on screen, store owners can make a final check, edit only what is needed and complete registration. Stores already using Toss POS can also use the feature through the settings menu.
A Toss Place official said, "This feature was prepared to help store owners move away from the burden of simple repetitive tasks and focus more on essential work such as store operations and serving customers." The official added, "We will continue to strengthen convenience across overall store operation systems spanning POS and payment terminals."
