Google will expand the Canvas feature in AI Mode to all users in the United States, TechCrunch reported on March 4 local time. Introduced last year as a Google Labs experiment, the feature helps users organise projects and supports deeper research.

Users can draft documents within Google Search or create custom tools. If they input ideas, it can convert them into code to produce apps or games.

Google said Canvas can be used for tasks including creating study guides, converting research reports into web pages, generating quizzes and producing audio summaries.

Canvas overlaps with some functions of Google's research tool NotebookLM. Canvas is also useful for refining drafts of creative work and receiving feedback, and supports more extended AI projects by linking with Gemini Del.

The company stressed that AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers can use the latest model, Gemini 3, and a 1,000,000-token context window, enabling complex project management.
