Finding and booking local restaurants in Japan through Naver Place is becoming easier.

On Jan. 22, Naver said it introduced a “restaurant reservation” search filter, based on data from Japan’s largest restaurant information platform Tabelog, that lets users view restaurants in Japan that can be booked locally.

Naver partnered with Tabelog in August last year and began linking Place service data. With the new filter, users can more easily find a list of restaurants that can be booked without checking individual pages one by one.

If users search for terms such as “Tokyo restaurants” or “Osaka restaurants” and click the restaurant reservation filter at the top left of the list, only restaurants that can be booked via Tabelog are sorted separately.

From Jan. 15, searchable area categories are also more finely subdivided. Previously, users could view lists only by city, but they can now specify detailed areas frequently visited by Koreans, such as Shinjuku and Dotonbori, to check restaurants that can be booked.

As demand for travel to Japan rises, usage of related services is also climbing sharply. Naver said that as of December last year, the click-through rate for the “Go to book on Tabelog” button rose about 2.8 times compared with September.

Choi Ji-hoon (최지훈), head of search at Naver Place, said, “As a platform with one of the largest levels of local information in Korea, Naver has expanded its place discovery service to overseas travel destinations in line with user needs.” He added, “We will continue to upgrade our integration with Tabelog so travelers visiting Japan can discover local restaurants and book them easily.”
