[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] China short-form video platform Kuaishou Technology is moving to monetise the generative AI market with its in-house AI-based video creation tool Kling AI. Kling AI has more than 12 million monthly active users, and it generated more than $20 million in revenue last month, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.

Kuaishou is a leading short-form platform that competes with ByteDance, which runs Douyin, the China version of TikTok. In recent years, it has focused on investing in AI technology to differentiate itself in an increasingly competitive short-form video market.

Kling AI is a tool that helps video creators and advertisers easily make more immersive content. It can generate videos that include voice, sound effects and background music.

Last month, Kuaishou also introduced a Motion Control feature on Kling AI that allows more detailed adjustments to a character's movements and facial expressions. The feature has drawn a strong response among overseas users, the WSJ reported.

Based on that, Kuaishou raised its 2025 annual revenue forecast for Kling AI to $140 million from $100 million. Third-quarter revenue has already exceeded $43 million, the WSJ reported.

S&P Global Ratings said in a recent report that Kuaishou's AI-based content creation and graphic generation capabilities will be key to improving profitability in the future.
