The Korea Broadcasters Association said on Monday it held a lunch meeting with the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Committee and discussed building a strategic partnership for the joint growth of the domestic AI industry and the media and content industry.

The meeting was attended by Vice Chair Lim Moon-young (임문영) from the committee and Korea Broadcasters Association President Bang Moon-shin (방문신), who is also president of SBS, along with KBS President Park Jang-beom (박장범), MBC President Ahn Hyung-joon (안형준) and EBS President Kim Yoo-yeol (김유열). The two sides agreed to cooperate to protect the sovereignty of the domestic content industry and to resolve pending issues such as copyright in a rapidly changing global AI landscape.

The Korea Broadcasters Association conveyed concerns that creative assets in South Korea could be leaked if dependence on overseas big tech technology rises during the AI transformation (AX) process. As countermeasures, it proposed securing AI models specialized for the domestic broadcasting industry and building a reasonable distribution and trading structure for learning data from broadcast works.

The committee plans to consult with relevant ministries based on the discussions and to prepare measures that can simultaneously achieve the growth of K-content, the securing of high-quality data and the guarantee of rights for copyright holders.

Lim said, "AI and media are a community of shared destiny that amplifies each other's value," adding, "The committee will be a reliable bridge and supporter so the media and content industry can leap forward as a leading player in the AI era."
