Netflix will introduce a real-time voting feature to expand viewer participation, TechCrunch reported on Monday.

The feature will be applied first to the live talent show "Star Search", set to be released on Monday. Viewers can rate contestants' performances on a five-point scale using a TV remote or the Netflix app, or vote directly from a multiple-choice menu. Votes are tallied globally and are only available within a limited time. After the broadcast ends, votes are treated as invalid.

Netflix tested the real-time voting feature last August through "Dinner Time Live With David Chang". At the time, Netflix CTO Elizabeth Stone (엘리자베스 스톤) said, "Viewers will participate directly in voting through TV or mobile, and interaction with the content will be strengthened." The company explained that it will provide a new experience that goes beyond simple viewing and allows viewers to become part of the story.

Netflix has already rolled out various live content, including John Mulaney and the live show "Everybody's Live", sports broadcasts and WWE programming. Last October, it also released an interactive game that can be played on smart TVs.
