KT will start pre-orders for the Pompompurin kids phone on its KT.com online mall from December 9.

The phone uses a Pompompurin theme on Samsung Electronics' Galaxy A17 LTE and comes with useful accessories. Customers who reserve the phone through KT.com receive a label printer. The official launch is on December 12.

Children aged 12 or younger who use the kids phone can subscribe to two KT junior plans that allow unlimited voice calls and text messages. If a parent uses a plan costing at least 100,000 won and the child selects a junior plan, the family receives an additional monthly discount of 8,800 won under the Our Child Discount programme.

Customers on junior plans can use KT Safety Box, which costs 3,300 won per month, for free. Safety Box lets parents check their child's location in real time and block harmful websites through a smartphone app. It also manages app usage and offers a Study Mode that limits the phone to minimal functions so children can focus on schoolwork.

KT has prepared a launch event. It will give a family package trip for three to Tokyo to seven families by lottery. It also offers Pompompurin key rings to 100 people and 2,000 won in Naver Pay credit to 500 people. Entries open on the KT.com event page from December 27.

Sun Jung-yeop, head of KT's Device Business Unit, said the company prepared this year's kids phone with greater completeness and aims to deliver new value through differentiated benefits and programmes.
