Macquarie Asset Management Group (MAM)-managed Macquarie Asia-Pacific Infrastructure Fund 4 (MAIF4) has signed a strategic partnership with cloud services company Gabia to develop a hyperscale data centre platform in South Korea, it said on Tuesday.

The two companies plan to jointly invest about 600 billion won over the next 4 to 6 years. The project aims to build a hyperscale data centre infrastructure platform with cumulative capacity of more than 100 megawatts at key domestic locations.

The partnership's first outcome is a 40-megawatt Ansan data centre. The Ansan IDC will be developed as an AI infrastructure hub in the Seoul metropolitan area. It will be organically linked with a Gwacheon IDC specialised in accommodating high-performance GPU servers, creating a complementary integrated infrastructure system.

The two companies plan to continue cooperating to expand data centre infrastructure in South Korea. MAIF4 will lead asset development and financing activities such as land acquisition, permits and approvals, and project financing. Gabia, together with its subsidiary KINX, will handle overall service operations including data centre design, network construction, operation and maintenance.

Won Jong-hong (원종홍), Gabia's co-CEO, said the cooperation was a major turning point in expanding the Gabia group's accumulated infrastructure capabilities into hyperscale. He said the Ansan data centre would respond to explosive demand for AI infrastructure and drive customers' growth.
