Nvidia will invest $200 million each in Lumentum and Coherent, for a total of $400 million, to strengthen its AI optics technology, CNBC reported on March 2.
The investment focuses on securing silicon photonics technology to build AI factories.
Lumentum is developing optical and photonics technology that supports next-generation AI, cloud computing and communications infrastructure. Coherent has photonics technology for high-performance optical systems.
Nvidia plans to work with Lumentum to develop what CNBC described as world-class silicon photonics and build AI factories, the broadcaster reported.
Chief Executive Jensen Huang (젠슨 황) said it would work with Coherent to accelerate development of next-generation silicon photonics.
