Next Renewable Solution (NRS), a special-purpose company established by Haezoom and GS Energy, completed three onsite PPA (direct power supply) solar power plants at Kolon Industries' Gumi factory. Haezoom said on Jan. 19 it completed a 2.4 MW solar power plant combining carport and rooftop systems.

The plant is a hybrid facility using parking lots and building rooftops and produces about 3.18 million kWh of renewable energy annually. Kolon Industries can cut about 1,459 tons of greenhouse gas emissions a year through the project. It consists of the Gumi Plants 1, 2 and 3 facilities.

Haezoom handled design and construction under a PPA contract that NRS signed with Kolon Industries. Under the onsite direct PPA structure, the power plant is located on the same site as the electricity-using facilities, allowing immediate supply of the renewable energy produced. The two companies support expanded corporate use of renewable energy and implementation of RE100 through the project.

Construction of the solar installation in the northern parking lot proceeded at up to three sites at the same time. The roughly 360-metre section was divided into four parts to minimise horizontal error. The segment-by-segment work was intended to improve precision.

A Kolon Industries official said, "In addition to power generation, it also serves as a shade structure, and we expect it to have a positive effect on employee convenience and improvements to the working environment."

Haezoom Chief Executive Oh-hyun Kwon said, "Onsite PPA solar is the most practical solution for companies to directly produce and use renewable energy, reducing electricity bills and meeting carbon neutrality goals." He added, "Haezoom will continue to expand customised renewable energy and RE100 solutions for companies through cooperation with various partners."
