Hancom, also known as Hancom, said it confirmed its entry into phase 2 after joining the LG AI Research consortium as a partner and ranking first overall in the initial evaluation of the Ministry of Science and ICT-led "sovereign AI foundation model project".
Hancom said its document platform and application service capabilities, which help a sovereign AI model spread to real services and industrial sites, contributed to strengthening the consortium’s competitiveness.
Hancom said it has verified the feasibility of use in administrative and workplace settings, including document writing, summarisation and knowledge search, by applying and operating the sovereign AI model in its own AI services such as Hancom Assistant and HancomPedia. It said such proof-of-concept cases helped demonstrate the potential of an "AI that actually works". Hancom said it plans to work with LG AI Research to accelerate use and wider adoption of the sovereign AI model, focusing on public and corporate (B2G and B2B) areas, as it enters phase 2. It aims to expand the application of AI-based document and knowledge services in public, financial and corporate work environments where security and trust are important, and to drive tangible growth in South Korea’s AI ecosystem. Hancom CEO Kim Yeon-soo said, "This entry into phase 2 confirms that a Korean-style sovereign AI model can be competitive in real services and user environments." He added, "Hancom will continue to contribute to the spread of AI technology into the field and the market, and, together with LG AI Research, build a trustworthy domestic AI ecosystem."
