Spotify will raise its U.S. premium subscription price to $12.99 from $11.99, CNBC reported on Wednesday.
Spotify earlier raised the price to $10.99 in July 2023 and then increased it to $11.99 in June last year before lifting it again this time. The latest adjustment will also apply in countries including Estonia and Latvia, and will be reflected in bills starting in February. Existing users are expected to be notified of the change by email.
The company described it as a decision to provide a better experience, but controversy is also growing amid a recent CEO change and artist backlash. Spotify previously said that after co-founder Daniel Ek stepped down, Gustav Soderstrom and Alex Norstrom took over as co-CEOs.
Some artists have faced off with Daniel Ek after it became known that he invested in defence technology company Helsing.
