[DigitalToday reporter Daegeon Seok] SK Group will cooperate with Mercedes-Benz Group in the future mobility sector under the lead of Tmap Mobility. Tmap Mobility said on Wednesday that executives from both sides discussed a strategic partnership at SKT Tower in Euljiro, Seoul.

The two sides discussed ways to combine SK Group’s capabilities in AI, mobility, batteries, semiconductors and energy with Mercedes-Benz vehicle and software technology. With the transition to SDVs (software-defined vehicles) emerging as a key topic in the mobility market, they agreed to strengthen cooperation. Tmap Mobility and Mercedes-Benz will expand cooperation based on AI technology and mobility assets.

The companies will jointly push to advance an SDV strategy linking vehicles, maps, AI and ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems). Mercedes-Benz will accelerate its AI-centered SDV strategy.

Tmap Mobility began providing real-time traffic information to Mercedes-Benz vehicles in 2021. In 2024, it installed Tmap Auto (TMAP AUTO), its in-car navigation service, in the third-generation MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system. Since October last year, it has been expanding software upgrades for existing sold vehicles, the E-Class.

Since the installation of Tmap Auto, the usage rate of Mercedes-Benz Korea customers’ built-in navigation has increased. Tmap Mobility proved its competitiveness and user trust in the domestic market.

Tmap Mobility CEO Jaehwan Lee said, "Through this discussion on a strategic partnership with Mercedes-Benz, we were able to confirm various cooperation options to build a future mobility ecosystem based on SK Group’s capabilities in AI, mobility, semiconductors and batteries." He said, "Based on data and AI accumulated at the forefront of contact with consumers, Tmap Mobility will continue to play a key role in creating global mobility innovation, including SDVs, together with Mercedes-Benz."
