KT said on Wednesday that its GenieTV is being used as a platform for everyday conversations with AI.

KT analysed keywords used with the GenieTV AI agent and found that voice use, previously centred on simple commands such as "turn it on" and "change the channel", has expanded into "free-form conversation" that exchanges daily questions and emotional expressions.

In interaction data based on long-term memory (LTM), words meaning family such as "mom", "dad" and "love" appeared repeatedly across all age groups. KT described this as confirming a tendency to view AI not as a simple tool but as a familiar conversation partner.

By age group, people in their 20s showed keywords related to partners and daily life, while people in their 30s to 40s stood out for conversations related to child-rearing. From the 50s onward, the share of hobby- and health-related keywords gradually increased.

Media-related words, including drama and sports, also appeared repeatedly among top terms. KT said this indicates the GenieTV AI agent is being used as a "media-specialised AI" that understands content context and continues the conversation.

Peak conversation times were 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., and the average number of daily utterances was counted at more than 3. Greetings and emotional expressions such as "good morning", "good night", "thank you" and "I love you" also totalled tens of thousands of cases cumulatively.

KT is providing the GenieTV AI agent on "GenieTV Set-top Box 3 to 4" and the "GenieTV All-in-One Soundbar", and plans to expand the number of devices covered to about 5 million units within the year.

Kim Chae-hee, head of KT's media division, said the GenieTV AI agent is establishing itself as a lifestyle AI that understands users' preferences, emotions and living patterns, going beyond simple TV control functions. "We will continue to advance its functions," Kim said.
