Shinhan Financial Group held an environmental protection volunteer activity with about 80 employees and their family members. It provided an opportunity to experience the importance of resource circulation and forest restoration, including reusing flowerpots collected in September and tending an ecological forest.
Shinhan Financial said on Sunday it carried out the 'Shinhan SOL Bangul Forest' volunteer activity on Oct. 31 at a smart farm in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province.
Shinhan SOL Bangul Forest is a public-private cooperative forest creation project to plant about 20,000 trees by 2028 to help restore the ecosystem in areas of Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, hit by wildfires. The activity was linked to a resource-circulation volunteer program conducted in September.
Employees and family members took part in indoor activities including repotting seedlings and making seed balls from native plants. They in particular reused flowerpots collected last month to plant air-purifying plants. The completed pots are to be delivered to local children's centers in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province.
A Shinhan Financial official said, "We will continue environmental social contribution activities that help restore ecosystems in wildfire-hit areas and support local communities."
