[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] Global HR and payroll platform Deel said on Oct. 27 it unveiled Pangaea, an in-house LLM product suite specialised in global workforce operations, along with its AI research lab, Emet.

According to the company, Deel developed Pangaea based on existing open-weight AI models, using more than 43,500 pages of specialised knowledge resources built and continuously updated by more than 2,000 experts in more than 150 countries.

Pangaea provides information needed for global workforce operations based on Deel's accumulated expertise in HR, payroll management and compliance. For example, companies looking to hire their first employee overseas can ask about local employment rules, leave systems and notice periods for resignation and check related information.

Pangaea provides answers directly from what it has learned without search. According to Deel's internal performance evaluation, Pangaea K1 recorded a median response time of 7.7 seconds on global workforce operations questions, up to three times faster than major search-based AI models at 13 to 28 seconds. The company added it cut the cost of generating AI answers by about 96 percent.

Deel also introduced Emet, a research lab responsible for evaluating and training AI models. Emet works with payroll, HR and compliance experts in each country to develop training data and AI model evaluation criteria based on real work. It runs the public benchmark EmBench to evaluate performance of various AI models, including Pangaea. Emet will be open to external AI developers. The evaluation scope is set to expand to payment, settlement and sales work.
