[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Global open-source solutions company Red Hat held its annual open-source technology event, Red Hat Summit: Connect 2026, on Oct. 27 at the Westin Seoul Parnas in Samseong-dong, Seoul.

In the keynote session, Vincent Caldeira (빈센트 칼데이라), Red Hat APAC chief technology officer, presented on “Designing for Maximum Impact: AI, Security, and Critical Infrastructure Decisions.”

Caldeira said corporate IT organisations today face the task of adopting AI at the speed business demands while responding to expanded security threats driven by AI. He said they must also modernise infrastructure without affecting services. He introduced differentiated approaches chosen by leading organisations and success strategies proven in the industry, in a situation where all of these tasks must be carried out without increasing headcount or adding risk.

“In the AI era, IT competitiveness depends not on how quickly you adopt technology, but on how reliably you execute while maintaining security and stability,” Caldeira said. “Red Hat will support companies so they can pursue AI and infrastructure modernisation within a single strategy through an open hybrid cloud platform.”

In a customer session, Bae Seon-jun (배선준), deputy general manager at KEPCO KDN, and Park Jun-wan (박준완), managing director at Red Hat Korea, unveiled a Red Hat OpenShift-based K-SCADA transition strategy under the theme, “At the Center of the Great Energy Transition, the Future of Intelligent Power Grids Prepared by KEPCO KDN SCADA.”

On security, Choi Won-young (최원영), managing director at Red Hat Korea, introduced Red Hat’s “defence in depth” strategy applied across its products and various security-related features in a presentation titled “Red Hat Security Response Strategy in the AI Era.” He addressed an era in which AI can exploit vulnerabilities at machine speed.

Red Hat also unveiled LightWell, which provides patches tailored to customer-designated environments, and presented a way for companies to establish a security response system to match the faster pace of threats.

Kim Kyung-sang (김경상), president of Red Hat Korea, said companies now face the task of simultaneously adopting AI, strengthening security and modernising infrastructure. “Red Hat will expand the open-source innovation ecosystem with customers and partners so that Korean companies can break free from technology dependence based on open source and execute innovation in the AI era,” he said.
