KB Kookmin Bank has confirmed 2,091 additional people whose information was leaked in an existing data breach case. That brings the total number of people affected to 2,210 from 119 initially identified. The bank plans to notify the newly confirmed customers individually of the leak and take steps to prevent further damage.

KB Kookmin Bank said on Oct. 26 it conducted a detailed analysis of the existing data breach with supervisory authorities and related agencies. It identified 2,091 additional cases beyond the initial 119.

The additional cases include 1,631 customers and 460 employees. The newly confirmed leak was not caused by a new hack. It was found in the process of closely re-verifying data and processing procedures in the system where the previous breach occurred.

KB Kookmin Bank has continued cross-verification with supervisory authorities and related agencies on the initial findings and the analysis process. It explained that additional leaked cases that were not identified at the time were confirmed during that work.

KB Kookmin Bank apologised to customers for failing to fully confirm the scale of the leak in the initial investigation. It said it would do its best to prevent a recurrence and strengthen customer protection measures.

It also plans to individually inform customers newly confirmed to have been affected of the relevant details and how to prevent secondary harm.
