Tesla has raised the listed driving range and acceleration performance of the Model 3 on its official Canadian website, raising the possibility it could resume local sales of U.S.-built vehicles. With orders suspended due to an import quota issue for China-built Model 3 vehicles, it could bring in U.S.-made cars as an alternative.

Electrek reported on Oct. 26 that Tesla changed the listed range of the Model 3 Premium rear-wheel drive (RWD) on its Canadian website to 584 km from 463 km. The 0 to 100 km per hour time was also cut to 5.2 seconds from 6.2 seconds. The curb weight was listed as 1,745 kg, and the range is based on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates.

The updated figures match the Model 3 Long Range rear-wheel drive produced at Tesla's Fremont plant in the United States that was sold in Canada in 2024. They are also the same as the range listed for the Model 3 Premium rear-wheel drive currently sold in the United States.

That has led to analysis that Tesla could supply Canada again with Model 3 vehicles built at its Fremont plant, instead of its Shanghai plant in China.

Tesla halted new Canadian orders for the China-built Model 3 Premium earlier this month. It cited exhaustion of the quota allocated for imports of Chinese electric vehicles.

Tesla said it could reopen orders if it is allocated additional import volume, and it indicated March 2027 as the expected timing. However, Canadian government data showed 33,069 units remaining as of Oct. 9 under the import permit period that began in September.

There is also an obstacle to introducing U.S.-built models: Canada's 25 percent retaliatory tariff applied to U.S.-made cars since April last year. The actual tariff burden varies depending on whether the vehicle meets North American trade agreement rules of origin and on the parts composition.

Tesla previously raised prices for U.S.-built Model 3 vehicles or halted sales of some products after the tariffs were imposed.

The only Model 3 available for new orders in Canada is the Performance trim, with prices starting from C$74,990 (about 70.91 million won).

Tesla has not officially announced that it will resume sales of U.S.-built Model 3 vehicles. The order page has not changed, leaving actual availability and pricing still uncertain.
