Apple rolled out its operating system 27.2 update, expanding features and language support for its AI assistant, Siri AI.
In an official Apple announcement on Oct. 26, the company said the update includes remembering previous conversations, expanded use of personal context and the addition of 5 languages including Korean.
Siri AI, first introduced last month with operating system 27, can now remember what was discussed in earlier conversations and answer related questions. One example is asking again about a restaurant recommended in the past. It can also draw on a wider range of information for responses, including photos attached to messages, calendar event attendees, voice mail, Safari browsing history and reading lists.
The update also adds a feature that lets users set the scope of access to personal information. Through the "Excluded Apps" setting, users can choose which applications Siri, search and suggestion functions can access. It also supports copying only selected sentences from Siri AI responses.
Language support expands from English to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Apple plans to add support by the end of this year for Chinese (traditional), Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese. Even though Chinese (traditional) support is planned, Siri AI cannot currently be used in mainland China. Siri AI based on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS is also not provided in the European Union.
Beyond Siri AI, the update also improved features across the operating system. The Messages app suggests follow-up actions such as adding calendar events based on conversation context, and shared albums in the Photos app allow users to edit descriptions and comments. The Photos app and Image Playground also add support for Google's SynthID watermark to identify images created or edited with generative AI.
iPhone Duo supports "Edge Light," which creates lighting effects on screen during Apple Pencil use and video calls. On Apple Watch, watchOS 27.2 improves Siri AI response speed. Major new Siri AI features are supported on all iPhone 16 models and later models, and on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The update was released as iOS 27.2 as well as iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and visionOS 27.2. On macOS, the ability to remember previous conversations and the Messages suggestion feature were added, and Apple also provided related updates for iPad, Apple TV, Vision Pro and HomePod.
