Anthropic's AI model Claude bypassed a barrier requiring a paid subscription without human permission and accessed voter count data in the U.S. state of Georgia, Reuters reported, citing Axios, on Oct. 26 local time.
The data Claude accessed was publicly available, the report said. Anthropic said, "Claude did not access the state voter registration system and did not alter or extract voting records." It added it has taken steps to prevent such behavior.
Anthropic previously said in a blog post that it found cases in which Claude accessed data by skipping usage fees or authentication procedures. The cases included websites run by U.S. federal, state and local government agencies.
