Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Z Fold 8 has been cited as the Android product most similar to Apple's first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo. Key specifications such as screen size, camera setup and storage are similar, making it the closest alternative available for purchase in the U.S. market.

According to the IT outlet Engadget on Oct. 25, the iPhone Duo's main rival products are Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Z Fold 8, Google's Pixel 11 Pro Fold and Motorola's Razr Fold. All three are book-style foldables that use a large inner screen for multitasking and watching videos.

In screen size, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is closest to the iPhone Duo. The iPhone Duo has a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is almost the same at 5.5 inches outside and 7.6 inches inside. By contrast, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold is larger at 6.5 inches outside and 8 inches inside, and the Razr Fold is 6.6 inches outside and about 8.1 inches inside.

The iPhone Duo weighs 9 ounces, or about 255 grams, making it among the heaviest of the compared products. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 weighs 7.09 ounces, or about 201 grams, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold 8.4 ounces, or about 238 grams, and the Razr Fold 8.6 ounces, or about 244 grams. In portability, Samsung's product has a relative advantage.

Camera setups differ by manufacturer. The iPhone Duo has two 48-megapixel rear cameras and a 12-megapixel front Center Stage camera. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has two 50-megapixel rear cameras. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold adds a 10.8-megapixel telephoto camera to a 48-megapixel main camera. The Razr Fold uses 50-megapixel main, ultra-wide and telephoto cameras, and applies a 20-megapixel cover selfie camera.

Google leads on durability. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold supports IP68-rated water and dust resistance, standing out among the compared products in durability. The iPhone Duo also has an IP68 rating, but the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Razr Fold are at IP48 or IP49 levels.

Battery capacity is a strength Motorola highlights. The Razr Fold has a 6,000 mAh battery. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has 4,800 mAh and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold 4,806 mAh. Apple does not disclose the iPhone Duo's battery capacity and instead gives up to 24 hours of mixed use.

Prices are at similar levels for the four devices. The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999.99 for the 256GB model, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Pixel 11 Pro Fold start at $1,899.99 based on 256GB. The Razr Fold also starts at $1,899.99 for the 512GB model. Samsung Electronics and Google also offer 1TB models, but do not support a 2TB configuration like the iPhone Duo.

Overall, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is cited as the most similar alternative to the iPhone Duo in inner screen size, outer display and camera setup. Google is seeking differentiation by emphasizing water and dust resistance performance, while Motorola is highlighting battery capacity and camera megapixel counts.

Xiaomi also unveiled its 18 Fold a few days before the iPhone Duo was revealed. It uses a 7.68-inch inner screen and a 5.38-inch outer screen, similar in size to the iPhone Duo, but it was excluded from this comparison because it is not launched in the U.S. market.
