Giatec signs a supply contract for an automotive glass defect inspection system, entering the auto parts inspection market in earnest. Giatec, a company specialising in ultra-precision parts and equipment and AI vision solutions, said on Oct. 26 it signed a contract worth about 3.15 billion won with a client. The scope covers upgrading equipment on existing inspection lines and building new inspection lines. The defect inspection system will be installed in the client’s automotive glass production process.
The system uses a high-resolution vision solution. It analyses images captured by cameras to automatically screen out product defects. The company explained that filtering out defects at an early stage of manufacturing can reduce defective items moving to later processes in advance. Giatec plans to apply its accumulated vision inspection technology and equipment engineering capabilities to fit the client’s production lines.
In the automotive industry, electrification and vehicle electronics are advancing rapidly. Vehicle electronics refers to the trend of a rising share of electronic devices in vehicles. Giatec has entered the auto parts inspection field with vision inspection technology validated in secondary batteries, semiconductors and displays. The company said demand is steadily increasing for high-precision quality inspection across key components such as glass, displays, sensors and batteries.
Giatec will pursue follow-on orders based on execution results secured through this project. It aims to expand its business from automotive glass to inspection for a wider range of components. The company explained it has built its business foundation by consistently supplying equipment in its core industries. The company expects that diversifying downstream industries through entry into the automotive field will reduce the extent to which it is affected by specific industry conditions.
It plans to respond to demand for inspection automation at manufacturing sites by combining its ultra-precision parts and equipment manufacturing capabilities with its vision solutions. It also aims to secure mid- to long-term growth engines by continuously increasing orders in new industry groups. It plans to build and deliver the inspection system on the client’s production lines without disruption. It also plans to expand the industries applying the inspection system in stages.
A Giatec official said, "This contract is the result of our inspection automation technology, proven in secondary battery and display processes, being recognised in the auto parts field as well." The official said, "We will build an inspection system optimised for the client’s production line without disruption, and use this as a stepping stone to expand the industries where our vision inspection systems are applied in stages."
