The U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry will hold a markup hearing on Jan. 27, local time, to consider the cryptocurrency market structure bill known as the CLARITY Act, Cointelegraph reported on Tuesday, local time. The bill will be released on Jan. 21, and the review will take place on Jan. 27.
Chairman John Boozman said the schedule would ensure transparency and provide clarity and certainty for the cryptocurrency market. He said he would create rules that protect consumers and support U.S. innovation.
Through the markup, the committee can discuss the bill and finalise details or propose amendments. Once the process is completed, the bill will be put to a vote by the full Senate.
If it passes the Senate vote, the bill must go through House review and receive President Donald Trump's signature. Cryptocurrency bills were delayed last year by a government shutdown, and there is a possibility of a shutdown this month, but a full shutdown is reportedly unlikely.
