Extreme Networks is considering acquiring Ruckus Networks, a network equipment subsidiary of CommScope, Bloomberg News reported on Jan. 13, citing multiple sources.

The deal could be worth more than $1 billion, Bloomberg News reported.

Extreme, whose major customers include the federal government and financial services providers, could significantly strengthen its enterprise network portfolio if it acquires Ruckus, Bloomberg News reported.

Ruckus has supplied WiFi access points, network switches and related software to hotels, schools and stadiums. It was founded in the early 2000s and listed in 2012 before being sold to Brocade Communications. In 2019, CommScope acquired a stake in Ruckus through its acquisition of Arris International. Ruckus was sold to Arris International after Broadcom acquired Brocade for $5.5 billion in 2017.
