Bitcoin spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) saw about $262 million flow out in a single day on Oct. 15, returning weekly flows to net outflows.

Cointelegraph reported that bitcoin spot ETFs, which had posted net inflows of $176 million the previous day, reversed course within a day. Cumulative net outflows for the week totalled $151 million as of Oct. 15.

The weakness in bitcoin spot ETFs coincided with a drop in the bitcoin price. Bitcoin fell below $82,000 after the release of U.S. inflation data and at one point on Oct. 15 slipped to $80,100. It has since recovered part of the decline and returned to the $82,000 range.

ETF outflows have continued since last week. Bitcoin spot ETFs also recorded net outflows of $681 million last week.

Other major cryptocurrency ETFs showed a similar trend. Ethereum spot ETFs posted net outflows of about $130 million on Oct. 15, taking weekly cumulative net outflows to $190 million. Ethereum spot ETFs had seen $542 million flow out the previous week and $138 million the week before that.

Solana spot ETFs posted net outflows of $1.3 million on Oct. 15, extending outflows for an eighth straight trading session. Weekly cumulative net outflows are $3 million. Zcash spot ETFs saw $3.7 million in inflows on Oct. 15, but still remained at net weekly outflows of $3.2 million.

By contrast, XRP spot ETFs took in about $740,000 the same day, making XRP the only one of the five asset classes to keep weekly net inflows. The moves came as overall risk-asset appetite weakened, with bitcoin spot ETFs reversing the previous day’s $176 million inflow with a $262 million outflow on Oct. 15 and ethereum spot ETFs also seeing $130 million flow out.

The market is seeing price weakness and ETF outflows at the same time. ETF money flowed out again after bitcoin slid below $82,000, while ethereum and solana also recorded outflows. Against that backdrop, XRP being the only asset to keep weekly gains shows differentiated supply and demand across assets.

ETF fund flows this week showed how quickly investor sentiment can swing after the release of U.S. inflation data. In the short term, changes in daily inflows and outflows in spot ETFs, alongside bitcoin’s price moves, are expected to remain a key market indicator.
