Stablecoin payments blockchain Tempo has secured payroll platform Deel as the first real-world customer for its privacy system, Zones.

The Defiant reported on Oct. 14 that Deel can use Zones so outsiders cannot see how much contractors were paid and how much they currently hold.

Deposit records for funds that Deel places into its Zones remain visible on the public network. But how much each contractor receives and what they hold is not disclosed. Contractors can see only their own balances, while Deel retains access rights for settlement and audits.

Deel's introduction of Zones adds privacy features to an existing wallet that Deel expanded in August to contractors in about 80 countries.

Tempo launched Zones in April and is offering it only to a limited set of users.

Tempo runs a separate private ledger for each Zone. The ledger is connected to Tempo's public network through a portal that holds collateral assets. Operators can view the ledger. Deposits and withdrawals leave public records that include token amounts and public network addresses. Operators can limit participants and asset scope and apply token issuer transfer policies. Records are hidden from outsiders but not from the company operating the Zone.

The current developer preview of Zones does not support token transfers between regular accounts or user-distributed smart contracts. It supports only fund movements through deposit and withdrawal infrastructure. A forced withdrawal feature is also not yet available to the public. Withdrawals are possible only after an operator continues processing and submitting transaction batches.
