The XRP ecosystem is approaching key dates this month, including a network amendment and Ripple's annual event.

U.Today, a blockchain media outlet, reported on Oct. 14 that the XRP Ledger (XRPL) is set to apply an amendment on Oct. 23, and Ripple will hold its annual Swell event in New York on Oct. 27 to 29.

The fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment is due to be applied to the XRPL mainnet on Oct. 23. The update bundles changes across areas including single-asset vaults, lending protocols, automated market makers (AMMs), permissioned decentralised exchanges (DEXs), trust lines, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), MPT, escrow, sponsorship, transaction signing and delegation.

The amendment is tied to delegation. Users can delegate detailed permissions for PaymentBurn only after the amendment is activated. Oct. 23 is the earliest possible date, and activation requires validator support to remain above 80 percent.

Ripple will also hold Swell in New York on Oct. 27 to 29. This year, for the first time, it will hold Swell alongside Apex, a developer, institution and investor event based on XRPL, and UBRI Connect, an academic event of Ripple's University Blockchain Research Initiative. Ripple will use the combined events to bring together industry discussions, the developer ecosystem and an academic network in one place.

The agenda also directly intersects with the XRP ecosystem. Topics will include liquidity and payments, real-world asset (RWA) tokenisation, stablecoins in banking ecosystems, the first year of an XRP spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) launch, artificial intelligence (AI) agents that move funds, and post-quantum security. David Schwartz (데이비드 슈워츠), Ripple's chief technology officer, and Ayo Akinyele (아요 아키니엘레), senior director of engineering at RippleX, will discuss XRPL's next steps.

Brad Garlinghouse (브래드 갈링하우스), Ripple's chief executive, will also appear in key sessions. Garlinghouse will join a discussion on the evolution of digital assets and the direction of the industry. He will talk with Bullish's Tom Farley about the digital asset market and the future of global finance, and with Matt Damon and Gary White about how technology and partnerships expand access to financial opportunity.

Against this backdrop, two dates in October highlight different parts of the XRP ecosystem. Oct. 23 will be a moment that determines whether XRPL strengthens its functions and reorganises its delegation system. Swell on Oct. 27 to 29 will bring together institutions, developers, investors and academia to discuss the scope of XRP and XRPL use.

As a result, this month's focus for XRP is closer to the nature of the schedule than to the price itself. Key points to watch remain whether the mainnet amendment meets the conditions and is activated as planned, and what discussions at Swell lead to on institutional adoption and the technology roadmap around Ripple and XRPL.
