[DigitalToday reporter Yoonseo Lee] Charles Hoskinson (찰스 호스킨슨), the founder of Cardano, said he plans to support artificial intelligence (AI) agent-based cryptocurrency trading on Midnight City within the next few months.
A blockchain outlet, The Crypto Basic, reported on Oct. 13 local time that Midnight City is developing a function that automatically executes trades across multiple blockchains and off-chain infrastructure when users deposit funds in a wallet and provide trading strategies to AI agents.
The core is a structure in which AI executes trades, but control remains with the user. Users can directly choose the strategy to apply and how the agent operates.
Midnight is also building infrastructure to support agent activity along with automated trading functions. The identity system under development, called Midnight Passport, targets its first release at the end of 2026. It then plans to add features at roughly three-week intervals in the first half of 2027. Each AI agent will have an identity linked to the user.
Midnight also integrated the Open Wallet Standard so users can set AI agents’ trading permissions. Users can authorise agents to access trading strategies and execute trades across multiple blockchains and off-chain systems.
It also plans to build a marketplace for sharing trading strategies. Rather than specifying buy and sell timing one by one, users would present broad goals such as generating profit, and agents would find appropriate strategies or cooperate with other agents to try to meet the goals. Hoskinson explained that agents can improve performance by learning strategies from other developers.
Specific launch schedules and operating conditions have not yet been disclosed. The AI automated trading system is in development, and work remains before actual introduction, including implementing functions and detailing agents’ authority to manage users’ funds.
Midnight’s plan does not stop at cryptocurrency trading. Hoskinson mentioned RealFi, a decentralised finance (DeFi) concept, saying privacy-focused technology can support Cardano’s goals. He said it would provide digital wallets and identities to people who have difficulty using traditional banking services, enabling them to use blockchain-based financial services such as small loans.
Areas with unstable internet access and electricity supplies are also under consideration. Hoskinson said privacy-focused technology could support secure transactions and identity verification even in such environments. He aims to expand Midnight’s use beyond AI trading to digital identity, financial services and protection of transaction information.
Midnight aims for infrastructure that spans strategy sharing, digital identity and privacy-based financial services, starting with AI automated trading. A key issue will be how specifically it puts in place security safeguards and user approval procedures while turning the plan into an actual service.
