[DigitalToday reporter Seungah Yoo] Bitcoin fell to $80,953.41 intraday on the 13th and then rebounded to $83,591.79, up 2.24 percent from the previous day.
On the 13th (local time), blockchain media outlet Decrypt reported that recent selling cut September gains in half, but bitcoin is attempting a rebound after confirming support at levels above the prior low.
The day’s low was about $588 (about 788,300 won) higher than $80,365.12, where the latest rebound began. In an uptrend, forming a higher low than the previous one is interpreted as a signal that buying remains in place. Bitcoin also recovered the $81,847.57 to $82,305.50 range, a Fibonacci “golden zone” where buying often flows in during an uptrend.
Market sentiment has shifted from overheated to neutral. The crypto fear and greed index showed “extreme greed” at 82 on Aug. 26, but now stands at 56, a neutral level. Calculated based on momentum, volatility, options positioning and social data, the index shows excessive optimism has eased but investor fear is not spreading.
On prediction market Myriad, bitcoin’s chance of reaching $80,000 in October was put at 54 percent. That was down from 56 percent on the 12th. In contrast, the chance of rising to $87,500 held at 45 percent. Short-term downside concerns remain, but sentiment improved slightly on the day’s rebound.
Supply-demand pressure persists. Since the start of October, bitcoin ETFs have seen net outflows of $386.3 million (about 520 billion won). Outflows can lead to actual bitcoin selling by funds, potentially putting downward pressure on prices. The market is also watching the U.S. consumer price index (CPI), due on the 14th. With inflation expected to rise to 3.6 percent year-on-year from 3.4 percent, an upside surprise could lift expectations for rate hikes and weigh on bitcoin. The Federal Reserve’s next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 27 to 28.
Technical indicators show the uptrend is intact but losing momentum. The average directional index (ADX), which indicates trend strength, stood at 29.9, above 25, a benchmark for confirming trend strength. But it was below 42.8 on Oct. 7, suggesting the rise is not accelerating. The 50-day exponential moving average also remains above the 200-day line, pointing to a continuing long-term uptrend.
The relative strength index (RSI) was 53.4, slightly above 50, the baseline for rising and falling momentum. In contrast, the squeeze momentum indicator showed volatility compression for seven straight trading sessions, and its reading of -0.52 signaled a weak bearish move.
In price terms, if the daily close rises above $84,245.88, it could attempt to climb to $86,644.19 and then $87,422.70. If it falls below $81,603.02, it could test support near $80,000, and closing below that zone would open the possibility of a drop to $77,500.
Until the U.S. CPI release, volatility may remain compressed and the market may fail to choose a clear direction. Oil prices, Iran-related news, U.S. Treasury yields and daily bitcoin ETF flows are key variables likely to drive short-term prices.
